Ortofon 2M Black

Ortofon are an unusual lot. We know them for their outstanding diamond styli, but they make all manner of interesting products with one common thread; Precision. From technical rubber parts to micro mechanical systems to bone conducting hearing aid add-ons, everything they produce evokes a sense of slightly sci-fi cool. 

But we were talking about needles for turn tables. We use almost nothing but Ortofon on our turn tables in store. The 2M range was a serious coup, offering the precision and tracking abilities of moving coil cartridges with the output of a moving magnet. They offer a range of quality options for almost any budget and every model is a star performer in its price point. From the very tidy Red through to the absolutely stunning Black, they're all amazing.

The 2M Black is Ortofon just plain showing off. The Shibata diamond stylus is something special. It's vaguely knife-shaped profile gets deep into the grooves of your records and digs up detail and warmth that you didn't know was ever there before. There's no finer moving magnet cartridge on the market.
