Van den Hul presents their brand new The Grail SX phono preamplifier, with numerous innovations over its predecessors.
Over five decades ago, we invented our phono cartridge stylus, the van den Hul 1S. During these decades, we produced phono cartridges as well. These cartridges are seen as one the best in their class and famous worldwide. But if you become the class-leading manufacturer of phono cartridges, why do you no invent t your own phono preamplifier?
This is what happened in 2009 when we launched the original Grail. During the years we came up with the Grail SB (balanced in and outputs) and the SE (balanced and a dual mono board).
And now there’s a new and even better kid in town! Meet the successor of the Grail SE and our newest flagship phono amplifier, the Van den Hul Grail SX.

A new model, a new circuit board
With the development of our flagship phono preamplifier, we also redeveloped the circuit board. Thanks to the new circuit, board, the overall sound quality improved. The Grail SX made a big improvement, especially in the soundstage and the airiness.
Mixed operation for input and output
With the new Grail SX, it is possible to use the inputs and outputs in ‘mixed mode’; with a symmetrical (XLR) input signal, the output can be used symmetrical (XLR) as asymmetrical (RCA) simultaneously. The same appears to the asymmetrical (RCA) input, both outputs can now be used independently and simultaneously.
Automatic load impedance
Like the predecessor, the Grail SX also has an automatic load impedance for the cartridges, starting from 10 Ohm to 400 Ohm.
Buttons at the front side
To improve the ease of use, we have removed the switches and placed light-up buttons. With these buttons, you can turn the Grail SX on and off, and choose between MM or MC or MC1 and MC2.
Designed and made in Europe
Like the other products from van den Hul, the Grail SX is designed and made in Europe.
